Competence-Based Learning (CBL) is a pedagogical approach that has been gaining traction over the years. However, conceptually, it is not a new phenomenon, but an expansion of existing efforts to get students to take a more active role in their learning. For the fourth episode of the ‘Meeting of Many Minds: Communities of Practice (CoP)’ series, we spoke to Professor Makondelele Makatu, an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Venda, who gave us insight into how CBL can be a source of empowerment for both students and educators.
